As kids, we watched with great admiration the Lotto Doctor’s generosity of giving out winning numbers in a very popular TV ad.
The curious moment answered at a point in the ad was “why is the lotto doctor not rich”. The vivid response was “because he is a Good Samaritan”.
But thinking of it now, the lotto doctor was never a Good Samaritan. The lotto doctor was simply doing things that promoted his business and got customers engaged – win or lose.
He wasn’t genuinely interested in making people rich at his expense. He didn’t give out the supposed winning numbers (the two sure) with certainty of wins. He was simply taking chances and a gamble on his skills of prediction.
We are inherently selfish as humans. Hardly do people offer things that make you better than them. So be guided and manage your expectations – few are good samaritans.
